Handedover to Ramul, Samantha shivered at the hellish markings carved into his flesh.A master torturer who governed the fate of sinners in the thirteenth level of Hell,he was feared by all demons. The worst of the worst were sent here. And she’dcommitted the gravest offense of all—she’d tried to kill the King of Hell’swife. Forgiveness wouldn’t be forthcoming. Ever. She was as damned as themortal souls Hell snagged from Heaven’s grasp.

Theloops in Ramul’s ears glinted as he pulled her near and lowered his head to herneck. He ran his fangs along her skin and she held her breath. Flames to herright burst bright when his fangs pierced her throat, sunk deep. She gasped, letting her head fall back, ashe groaned against her flesh. Suckling hard, through her blood he learned thedetails of her offenses.

Shetrembled. Not in disgust as she’d predicted, but—shit was that moisture betweenher thighs arousal?

Black,soulless eyes stared at her when he lifted his head. Samantha’s blood drippedoff his chin and hit his bare ashy colored chest. She looked away, afraid he’dsniff out her excitement.

Micah’s Fall

Belielknelt on the hard-packed earth. His wrist rested on his bent knee, as his gazesurveyed the land below. Fury lanced through his body like the razor sharpclaws of his kin. Resentment and duplicity stung his sense of loyalty. Fathertaught them allegiance and then shunned them for lesser creatures. Thebitterness threatened to choke him and—

Wetnesshit his cheeks. He dabbed at the moisture with his fingertips, shocked todiscover they were tears. The first he’d ever shed.

The last I will cry.

Belielwiped the tears away as the wind wisped his long blond hair against his bareback. Goose bumps rose along his flesh and he shivered from the chill in theair. Discomfort was unknown in Heaven. Left with no choice, he would acclimateto his new environment.

Fatherhad done it, had really forsaken his angel brothers, demanding they worship Hisnew creation. Weak, mortal creatures that wallowed in the mud and dwelled in caves.Fragile things that needed protecting and held not a lick of sense. Filthy anddiseased mongrels that would slaughter one another for nothing more importantthan the right to claim a mortal woman.

Disgusting! The entire lotof them. The Atlantians had been far superior. At least he had respected them,even if he hadn’t been keen on their ilk.

I will never bow to the common humans. Maybe I can…corruptthem. Taint them and turn them against Father.

Angerreceded, as an innovative scheme originated. The small smile felt good tuggingagainst his lips, erasing the frown that’d marred his beauty since the conflictwith his parent began. Frustrating Father with these pathetic mortals…victorycould be his. God sought their protection. Instead Beliel’s civil war againstFather’s mandate brought about human damnation. In his triumph, solace would emerge.

Risingto his feet, his wings ached from Father’s attempt to rip them off. It wasn’tenough that his father loved the mortal spawns more than him—even after all he’ddone for him.

Father tried to mortallymaim me by ripping my wings off.

The injustice ofit!

Fingerscurling into fists, he shook from the treachery.

God’smost fearsome archangel, none of his brothers could defeat him, as proven onthe battlefield in Heaven. Beliel alone had served as the flame of God.

Thetender skin around his left wing left him with a sneaky suspicion that Father’sattempt to cleave it from him had partially succeeded. The claws a brother had gougeddown his spine, still oozed warm blood. The injuries to his body paled to hismental grievance.

Theirheavenly war had not been pretty. Angelic blood painted the streets of gold. Brothershad fallen, dead by Beliel’s hand. Father’s rebellious children dead by His hand. What doting, loving parentkilled their offspring?

Histwin brother, Eliel, fell beside him, landing on his side with a groan. Elielshivered from the cold atmosphere, but his brother’s angry gray eyes lockedwith Beliel’s. A second ally. More would fall. Many had fought alongside him inHeaven.

Athird and fourth angel fell like boulders of ice on the blank terrain—Raguel andHielel. As if they were the beginning drops of a thunderstorm, a host of fallenshowered the land.

Eventhough the fight out of Heaven had been brutal, Beliel had exited his homelandwith his powers undiluted. His formidable presence to be unleashed uponunsuspecting mortals.

Beliellifted his hands toward the sky as lightening rent the blackened heavens. A newlife required a new name. A perfect one needed for the mighty archangel thatwould dare to build an empire against his Father and challenge His rule for thesouls of humanity.

Hissmile grew wide as the clouds parted and the full moon burst forth.

Poetic.

Belielthrew back his head and bellowed, “I am Micah…who is like god!”

The blood moon inched along the horizon. Too long! She’d taken toolong with the ill and needy in town. Fifty stairs to reach the safety of her lover’sarms. Cool, clean oxygen inside the glass walls of his domain.

Another twentysteps.

Crimson cloudsbillowed, roiled nearer. Eyes burning, tears hit her cheeks, dried in saltylines. Lungs parched, she held her breath and quickened her pace.

Tripping, she hit her chin on the cracked steps. She pushed to herhands and knees, trembling as the blood fog sapped her strength. Dizzinessturned her vision to pinpoints of light.

Ten footsteps from shelter...she collapsed.

Here's my mini-scene...

Coming from the shower, Nix spied Mads onher cell, straddling the vanity stool wearing only one of his shirts. Sexy. Damn the woman made him nuts, kepthis libido off the charts. And all he could think about was her straddling him instead of thefurniture.

He watched her as he towel dried hishair. She shifted her hips on the leather seat...and repeated the movement. Did the leather chafe against her vagina, creating a teasing friction? Did it make her think about him? Angling his head, he caught the casual caress of her fingers along her nipple. She shivered and lowered her hand to the seat between her thighs.

Touch yourself, he prodded silently.

She didn't.

Twirling a strand of hair around a finger, she laughed, a soft sound thatcaressed his body with a shiver. “Talk to you later, Georgie.”

Even hearing his aunt’s name failed to dispelhis ardor. Nothing much could at this point, except sinking into Mads’s body.

She disconnected the call. Finally! He withstood the temptation to executea triumphant fist-pump in the air. Tossing the towel on the bed, he moved inbehind her on the stool, his tread silent.

Nix wrapped his fingers around her throat and forced her head back. She gasped in surprise at his aggression, as his mouth descended to hers roughly. Submissive to his dominance, she pleased him by not protesting. His tongue thrust past her lips and she groaned, as he squeezed her breast.

“Touch yourself,” hewhispered against her lips.

Without hesitation, Mads lowered both hands between her legs. Nix devoured her mouth to the sound of many whimpers to come from her...

Hours elapsed as he watched her sleep, while anticipating this moment when the morning light would pierce through the curtains and kiss her exposed flesh. The sun coats her with its warmth. Vampires. I must admit, like any other gal out there whoadores the supernatural world. I love my vampires. Vampires are like eggs. Theyhave been written about in many ways. Yeah, fried, died and laid to the side.Seriously, there are so many things you can write about in the vampire genrewhile putting your own spin on it. While I love my vampires and have manystories on my hard drive about them, I'm seeking to write something unique.

Dragon shifters. Oh yeah, howunique is that? Well, these fellas are heavily underrated in my opinion. Whilethere are some books out there about dragon shifters, there don't seem to be asmany books as there are about the vamps.

Dragons are sexy, hell yeahthey are. Just the other day while running errands I could have sworn I cameacross a dragon shifter. Yes, a real live dragon shifter. Some of you maythink. Now that gal has totally lost her ever- loving freaking mind! Noseriously. C'mon. Use a little imagination here. This is what inspired me towrite about More Than Human. I've discovered several things about dragonshifters, too many to list here:

1. Whenever you're in closeproximity, the heat rolls off them in waves. Yes, seriously.

2. They growl. Ever been nearsomeone and hear them growl? I mean a deep, guttural growl??

3. They're marked with tatsand symbols of their sign.

Sometimes I see things. No,not dead people. I see energy in a person's aura. At times the energy level isnormal, but man sometimes it's powerful and overwhelming...,which leads me tobelieve. Oh yeah, there are definitely supernatural creatures surrounding us....

Have you ever walked past aperson and were immediately captivated by them? I mean you just had to stop andthink…hmmm? There’s something about him/her that I just can’t put my finger on.They just seem to intrigue you a bit.

I think maybe I'm just alittle intrigued or my muse may be kicking into overdrive. Yeah, I'll go withthat. But, you must admit that your mind tends to wander about certain people,places or things that may cross your path.

He reached for her, almostripping the silk robe from her body. Something seemed to push the air from herlungs as she fought for breath. Realizing she was naked as a jaybird, shecovered her stomach.

She was shocked. Her bodydidn’t turn him off? She looked into his eyes, but all she saw was his desireheightening. He lingered at the faint stretch marks. Astonished, she watched ashe stroked the areas lovingly, nuzzling against her flesh. She hated herstretch marks, but obviously the man worshipped her body.

Tori’s hips lifted off thecouch as he kissed and licked her rounded belly. Pleasure shot through herentire body. “Bane.” She crooned. She watched as her boss continued working hisway to the place she desired most. She gasped when he reached her spot. Torialmost leapt off the sofa. “Bane!” She heard him growl. This time she wasn'timagining things. Immediately, three words came to mind. Sexy. Hot. Inhuman.

AN INTERVIEW WITH THE BLACK DOG

After the success Ihad with my interview with Rose, I decided that it was appropriate that Iinterview her lover, Skriker, to continue in the same vein and turn the heat upa little bit. I have thrown in some more interesting questions, with the hopesthat our half-demon bad boy will thrill us with some tidbits we have neverheard before. Enjoy!

DANI: Welcome, Skrike. I’m so thrilled to have you back…andI’m sure all your lady fans are, too!

SKRIKER: Always tasty as punch to see you, Dani baby. Andhellooooooo to all my lovely ladies! Sweet kisses to each and every one ofyou…especially my Angie girl down in Oz. (Heblows a juicy kiss and laughs robustly.)

DANI: Okay, let’s get started. I’ve tried to mix it up alittle with the questions this time. What was the happiest moment of your life?The saddest?

SKRIKER: I know that Rose gave you two happiest memories inher interview a few days ago. I also have two happiest memories. The firstwould be the day my little brother, Rory, was born. My mom had both of us athome—you don’t give birth to a demon’s kid in a hospital—and my dad and Ihelped her. I was seven when my wee bro came along, and I recall being soexcited I nearly pissed myself. I was proud as shit to help with the delivery,and after Roar came out and was a cleaned up and bundled tight, I was allowedto hold him. He was the spitting image of my dad: jet black hair, intense darkeyes. Completely my opposite as far as physical looks go. But that kid meantthe world to me…I was so proud to be a big brother. I remember that he stuckhis little tongue out at me as I held him, and it was black and forked, likemine and my dad’s when we morph. We were thick as thieves from the get-go. (He averts his eyes, and they gleam withtears.)

DANI: That’s so sweet. I have a little sister—she’s myopposite, too, but I love her to death. There’s something really special aboutbeing an older sibling and having the honor of helping them grow up. At leastyou got to enjoy some fun times with him.

SKRIKER (chuckling ashe wipes his eyes): You bet, baby. Now, my other happiest memory involvesRose, of course. It was the first time she ever came over to my place. It wasabout three weeks after we had done the Paradise Hill run and had shacked up ather place after—you remember, when her dad magically appeared and tried to killme? Anyway, she kind of disappeared on me for a few weeks…I didn’t hear fromher or see her at all, and I was convinced that she did indeed just up andvanish on me, and I would never see her again. Hardest three weeks of my life.I called her over and over, and she never picked up. I just knew that was it;that I’d lost her. She had chickened out because I was half-demon. Then,finally, just after I’d given up, she showed up at my door one night arounddinnertime with a bottle of wine and an overnight bag. Almost gave me heartfailure, I was so happy. Needless to say, her daddy couldn’t find her at myplace—she had blocked him out—and we had one hell of a good time. I think shestayed with me for a full week, and all we did was fuck. Oh, man, that wasawesome, having her in my bed for the first time. I knew that we were tied upat the hip from then on, and it made my heart just soar.

DANI: Who has beenthe biggest influence on your life? What lessons did that person teach you?

SKRIKER: Harry, the dude who pulled me off the streets whenI was thirteen and made me what I am today. Never thought I would say thatabout a werewolf. But Harry isn’t your average were. He’s a good guy, for onething. He gave me a home, a family, after mine had been torn away from me and Ihad no one. He taught me skills for the fight cage and the hunt that I willalways be grateful to have learned. He taught me how to ride a motorcycle, workon a car, fight hand-to-hand, load and fire a gun. Hell, the guy made me afucking celebrity through his club, The Beelzebub, and I’m pretty much richfrom it. I won’t tell you what I’m worth exactly, but it’s a hell of a lot,I’ll say that—and I owe all of it to Harry. Without him, God alone knows whatwould have happened to me out in the wide world.

DANI: Who has been the kindest to you in your life?

SKRIKER: In all truth? Probably Gretchen, Harry’s daughter.She’s like a little sister to me. When she first saw me, I was this big dirtyhomeless kid that her dad lugged in off the street as a charity case. And I waspissed—at that time, I was probably more animal than human…er…Halfling. Shecould have been scared of me, or jealous that her dad took me in and raised meas his own. Instead, she embraced me as a playmate and as family. I know that,deep down, she’s always loved me in a non-family sort of way, if you get mydrift, but she has never acted jealous of any of the girls I was with,including Rose. She only supports what I choose to do, and she looks out forme, even though I’m so much bigger. (Helaughs heartily.) I love that little weregirl like nuts. She and Rose getalong well, too, but that’s because Gretchie is so generous in here. She getsalong with pretty much anyone—even my somewhat standoffish lady love. (He taps his chest lightly with twofingers.)

DANI: It’s been said that after they pass away, the mostimportant people in our lives “live within us.” Is there anyone from your pastthat lives within you?

SKRIKER (quietly):My dad, for sure. Yeah, he was a nasty demon for a long time, but I’m proud aspunch to be his son. He was so good to his family…but he was also an ice-coldbadass. The gifts he gave me I wouldn’t trade for the world. It may soundinsane, but he made me proud to be half-demon. I miss him like mad sometimes.He was incredible.

DANI: What are you proudest of in your life?

SKRIKER: Saving all the people I have by hunting the BigBads. I have definitely given Hell a run for their money…and I’m damn proud tobe doing it.

DANI: That is so interesting that you kill your own kind.You hate other demons, but you are also so proud to be a Halfling.

SKRIKER: Yeah, I know it sounds weird. But I look at it thisway: I can’t change what I am, and a lot of the gifts my dad passed down to meare pretty damn cool. I’m half human, and therefore I have free choice. Ichoose to use my demonic abilities for good. I save people’s lives using myabilities—and I fuck up other demons in the process. It’s the most beautifulirony I could imagine.

DANI (grinning):Yep, it’s pretty damn cool. Now, I asked Rose this question, so I’m going toask you, too. When in life have you felt most alone?

SKRIKER: That’s easy, Dani. I felt the most alone when that‘good Samaritan’ pulled me from my house when my family was attacked andkilled, and then just left me standing on the sidewalk, a kid of eleven,watching my house burn down with my mother and kid brother still inside. I hadno one to go to—no family, no friends. No one.

DANI: How awful for you. It’s interesting—you and Rose bothdescribe your moments of ultimate aloneness as when you lost your families.Pretty much an identical moment.

SKRIKER (noddingslowly): Yeah, it’s funny how that works, isn’t it?

DANI: Okay, I know that you are technically immortal, beinga Halfling, and you won’t die naturally or age past your prime…you luckybastard.

SKRIKER (laughing):Yeah, it’s pretty sweet!

DANI: But if you were to be killed unnaturally—shot, stabbed,slain by some monster you were hunting—how would you like to be remembered?

SKRIKER (chucklingdelightedly and sweeping his fingers through his hair): Oh, boy. Putting meon the spot today…wow. I’d say that I would like to be remembered as thebooze-swilling, fun-as-hell Halfling work of art that brought a little comfortto the minds and souls of those who fear what lurks in the darkness.

DANI: Do you have any regrets?

SKRIKER: Yeah, I think every man does. At this point, mybiggest regret is that I couldn’t help save my mom or my brother. I was just adamn kid, but I still feel like I should have been able to fend off thosedemons that attacked and killed them. It still hurts like a sonofabitch tothink about it.

DANI: What does your future hold?

SKRIKER: Wow, asking the heavy questions today, are we? Ican tell you what I wish for. I want Rose to marry me. For real, with the ringsand the church and everything.

DANI: You, a half-demon, want to get married in a church?!

SKRIKER (cracking up):Of course, mama! Demons love churches! And on top of that, I’m Catholic, justlike my mama! She was the oddball Swede who converted to Catholicism, andtaught me to be the same. I may lapse a bit on the whole confession thing andnot attend Mass as often as little old ladies with really big hats, but I stillwant to get married the proper way. Question is, will Rose marry me period, andif she does, will she do it in a church. She hates churches, ‘cos she feelslike all the angels are staring down at her and judging her there. She’dprobably want to get married on a beach, or in a forest.

DANI: Would you marry her on the beach or in a forest?

SKRIKER: At this point, I’d marry her anywhere! At least atfirst…but the vow renewal would HAVE to happen in a church, dammit! She’d doit. I could convince her with my sweet, sweet charm. (He winks and raises a cocky eyebrow.)

DANI (busting up andblushing): Whew! Need to turn the A/C on with you in the house, boy! Whatelse do you see for you and your lady?

SKRIKER: Lots more hunts. And a family. Rose doesn’t thinkwe can conceive…I once asked her if I should start buying rubbers, and she flatout laughed at me. She says that if a demon can knock up an angel, the wholeUniverse is fucked. But I still have hope that we could have a pup or two…andthat our kids would be amazing.

DANI: True enough! So, you two don’t use condoms? Ever?

SKRIKER: Nope. And my dick is reeeeaaaally happy about it.

DANI (laughing):You lucky dog, you! Well, all I can say is that we all hope the future is goodfor you and that pretty lady of yours! Thanks for joining us, sweetness. It’salways a blast.

SKRIKER: Your welcome, baby. Loves ya.

MY REVIEW

Warning…Demon’s Slave is dark erotica and not intendedfor the faint of heart. I read some negative comments about this book onGoodreads. I have to disagree with those negative comments. Going into thisbook I was expecting a dark and twisted read and that is exactly what Ireceived. There is a warning in the blurb, so you know straight up what you’rereceiving and to read at your own caution. So I’m really unsure what thenaysayers were expecting.

I loved this story from the firstsentence! The story is graphic, somewhat abusive and hardcore paint/torture typeof BDSM. Had Skriker been something other than a demon bad boy, I would havebeen turned off by some of his actions. But he’s been granted Mastership overhis half-angel girlfriend. I wouldn’t expect a demon to treat her sweetly, that’dbe unrealistic. Does he go too far at times…hell yes! But, I repeat, he’s ademon, he should go too far. If he hadn’t pushed her boundaries, I would’ve hadissues with this story. I found myself loving Skriker in one paragraph, hatinghim in the next and loving him all over again in the next chapter. Anyway youlook at it, that’s good writing. My only complaint was how much Skriker ‘smirked’.

The heat level of this book is mindblowing…the flush your cheeks and wet your panties kind of heat! It’s a shortread full of erotic exploits. I couldn’t put it down. This book is definitely not foryou if you’re against violent sex. It’s been a long time since I’ve readsomething this raw and gritty. What a nice change from what the publishingindustry normally offers us. I will be hunting for more books by DanielleSmith!

What’sin a Cover?

It’s a no brainer that a book’s cover is equally asimportant as what’s on the inside of a book. To illustrate my point, afew months ago, my nine-year-old was addicted to Beverly Cleary’s Ramonabooks. She couldn’t get enough. While shuffling through some of my old books,I scrounged up a hard cover of Ramona theBrave printed in 1975. It had a bright orange cover and an outdatedimage of Ramona swinging on the cover. You guessed it—my nine-year-old wanted no part, convinced that thecontent was an inferior knock off of her other pretty new books.

So how to make a cover that will “lure” the reader in. I’m not a promotions expert and really don’thave a clue, but I’ll share how my cover came to be. I wanted to set my book apart from thethousands of other paranormal romance books on the market. I figured there was two ways of doing this. First, put a dude on the cover. With an exception to the beefcakes in the eroticamarket, the vast majority of books targeted to females have girls featured onthe cover. Usually she has long hair andshe’s rocking some sort of dress. Onelone guy—check.

The second thing I figured that would make my book stand outis the selkie himself. Selkies arelesser known mythical creatures, and the few selkie books on the market don’tactually illustrate what a selkie is—a seal man (or woman). In case they are new to the reader, the maleselkies have the power to lure women to their deaths beneath the sea. One dangerous selkie—check.

I wanted to hint at my selkie’s mystery with a stormy skyand the sea as a backdrop. Reese Dante,my cover artist, went one step further with making the cover nighttime. The most difficult part of this whole processwas finding Eamon, the drop dead gorgeous selkie who stars in my book. Here’s my dilemma: he must be young, feral,dangerous, and be insanely good looking. This last part terrified me because beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Reese and I must have looked through thousands of picturesof gorgeous half naked male models. Imust say it was really a sacrifice. After a few days, I narrowed my search down to two men and then asrequested, sent my top choices to Reese. That night I dreamt about my two cover models, my wavy haired Eamon, anda slightly older model. In my dream, I chosemy Eamon and then was nearly panicked that Reese would prefer the othermodel. I woke up with my stomach inknots and then anxiously waited with bated breath to hear back from her. There are a lot of artistic factors toconsider when designing a cover. It waswith the greatest relief that Reese preferred my Eamon. I knew I had made the right choice when I gotthree thumbs up from my daughters. Beautyis still in the eye of the beholder, but at least my stomach isn’t clenchinganymore. Now the question is, are youthe reader lured?

The Lure of Shapinsay BLURB

Ever since Kait Swanney could remember, the old crones of the village have been warning her to stay away from the selkies. They claim that like sirens of old, the seal men creep from the inky waters, shed their skins, and entice women to their deaths beneath the North Sea. She obsesses over a reunion deep beneath the bay and risks her own life to be reunited with her selkie. But when she lands the dangerous lover, the chaos that follows leaves Kait little time to wonder—is it love setting her on fire or has she simply been lured?

MY REVIEW

The Lure of Shapinsay by Krista Holle is an interesting story and nothing likeI’ve ever read before. Luckily I had some knowledge of selkie myth, so I was easilyable to follow some of the selkie traditions in Ms. Holle’s story. I liked thatshe wrote the myths into the book. If you’re unfamiliar with selkie folklore, alittle bit of research might help you understand Eamon’s obsession with hisskin and how he takes it on and off. There are way too many adverbwords used. The over-usage would make my editor cringe. However, even with theoverdose of adverbs, I enjoyed the story. At times the story felt repetitivewith Eamon accusing Kait of wanting his skin. But his obsession with his skin wasexplained, so his anxiety is understandable even though it is tedious. Justmakes you realize how tired she is of being accused of wanting his skin. Thelanguage was difficult for me at times because it’s different than our own. “Wan”is “one” and on one occasion I had no idea what the author meant by astatement (I should've wrote it down, but was too engrossed with the book to stop long enough...SORRY). I looked up the reference on the internet, but couldn’t find an explanationeither. A little more detail and explanation would’ve been nice.

The story read as ifsomeone was narrating it in my head. It has an easy cadence and flowed smoothlyfrom one scene to the next. It is a fresh and unique tale, definitely not thesame story you’ve seen written a million times with a different twist. The Lureof Shapinsay is different, and well worth the read. I had a difficult time puttingthe book down. I always wanted to know what was going to happen next...would they stay together? But how could they? The odds were against them. I'm still mixed on the ending, but I won't give that away.

Forthose who enjoy reading a unique, not ordinary, fresh tale, I would recommend this read. You're not going to be blown away and left gasping with intrigue and excitement, but it's not that type of story. It's a sweet, enduring and epic kind of romance that I think you'll enjoy. If you wantsomething dark or erotic, this is not your story.

Krista: Is thereanything you are really passionate about?

Kait: Aye, I’d beloving the sea ever since I was a wee lassie. Blair’s scared of drownin’ but not me. I love to swim. My Da was afisherman and never afraid. He made certainI wouldn’t sink before he died. There may be another swimmer on the island,but I’ve yet to have the pleasure o’ meeting him.

Krista: The currentsaround Shapinsay are treacherous, but what most villagers fear is what’s underthe currents. Does your love of thewater have anything to do with the selkies, maybe one in particular?

Kait: Are ye tryingto trick me into talking about Eamon? I’mnot ashamed o’ what he is. Did ye thinkI dinnae notice his eyes, too dark to be human and that pearly white skin? It matters not a mite that he is nothuman. He has ten fingers and toes—that ishuman enough fer me.

Krista: You’recourage regarding Eamon is impressive, but your encounter was just a briefpassing in the night. For hundreds ofyears, the male selkies have been luring unsuspecting women to their deaths beneaththe sea. Aren’t you scared that Eamonwill come back and kill you?

Kait: (Kait nervouslytwists her fingers) I’ve nae choice butto hope he will come back. Odin willing, I’ll live to tell the tale oncemore and not wash up on Stronsay a bloated corpse like my friend Astrid. The gods forgive me fer speakin’ her name.

Krista: Have you everhad a serious relationship with a man? Iunderstand the men on the island outnumber the women three to one.

Kait: I try to avoidthe hairy numptys looking fer a wife. They only wish for someone to scale and bone their slimy fish. But ever since Eamon crept into our home uninvited,Blair’s been pressuring me into marrying the very old Magnum Muir. Ha, I have no intention of falling into that mustyold net. Magnum’s more ancient than thecliffs of Hoy.

Krista: One lastquestion. For hundreds of years,fishermen have been stealing skins so they can land a selkie bride. Would you consider stealing Eamon’s skin ifthe opportunity presented itself?

Kait: I haven’t beenthinking straight since Eamon tried to strangle me. Always I gaze across the water looking for asmall glimpse of his tail or even his whisker. Have ye seen his skin? I’d reallylike to know where he hides it.

Krista: Selkies guardtheir skins very closely, but I wish you the best in finding it and pinning downyour selkie man.

Hellish Poem Contest

I'm stealing this idea from Mindy Janicke, who suggested it...Write me a hellish poem. If one of them fits my third book in the Road to Hell Series--Genesis Queen--I'll put it in the beginning of the book and give YOU credit for it, of course. The poem doesn't have to rhyme, and doesn't have to follow any poem formula. Make it creative and have fun! Since this is such a huge creative request, I won't close the contest until February 29th, 2012.

Here's the hellish poem I wrote, which spawned the suggestion from Mindy:

One, two Hell's coming for you...

Three, four with lots of gore...

Five, six with flesh ripping licks...

Seven, eight pain is great!

Nine, ten start all over again!

To give you some idea of what Genesis Queen is about--FYI some parts of the storyline may alter since it is a work in progress--here is a very broad concept of the story:

Upon Nix's resurrectionfrom Hell, tranquility has fallen. In the shadows a threat emerges, one that may claim morethan their lives, but feast on their souls. Prophecy foretells Madison and Amos’simminent demise. Desperate to save his family, Micah convinces Madison toaccept his help to defeat the enemy, but can he persuade her totrust and love him again? With her heart pulled in two directions, betrayal comesfrom an unexpected source. Bloody sacrifices will be made by everyone, butnone as great as the one Micah must bear. Amid the rubble of defeat, Hell’s GenesisQueen will dawn.

I flew to Vegas on December 26th to visit family! I've been there many times over the years, as my aunt and grandparents have lived in Vegas since I was a little girl. This was my first visit where nothing new had been built.

Madison watched the demon trappedin the Demon Lock. It’d spent twenty minutes threatening to rip her apart andplay in her intestines. He obviously did not have the Christmas spirit. Insilence, she’d waited for him to wear himself out. Waited for him to realizenone of his threats cowed her.

Being raised by a Baptistpreacher, Madison knew all the Biblical tales of demonic possession. Spoon fedscriptures since her birth, the reality was worse than her father ever preached.More extreme.

There had been a time shebelieved God an imaginary means to manipulate her father’s “flock” intostuffing the offering plate on Sunday morning, in a desperate bid to seekatonement for their sins. The truth had bit her in the ass.

Saliva dripped from the lip ofthe demon’s stolen body. A young, good-looking, brunette male, somewherebetween eighteen and twenty. He flattened his palms on the invisible shield.

“Release me or I’ll carve outyour liver and eat it.” His voice had grown hoarse from his useless rants.

Madison laughed. Good luck withthat. She wouldn’t rise to the taunt. Gazing about their rural locale, the mooncut shadows through the thick clouds. She dug a pack of gum out of her pocketand slowly unwrapped the thin strip from the foil.

“Merry Christmas,” she said andflicked him a piece of gum. The demon gawked at the rectangular silver stick onthe ground at his feet. She bet her lack of fear confused him. Fabulous.Bewildered was the only way to maintain the upper edge with one of their ilk. “Iwant the spell to create a portal to Hell.”

She needed that spell to get NixBirmingham out of Hell. Christmas was tomorrow and it rankled that he remainedin Hell instead of celebrating the festivities with his family.

As she folded the foil into anitty-bitty square, she cut her eyes at him and tucked the paper back in herpocket. The hell spawn watched her movements with a frown slashing across hisforehead.

“A portal to Hell?” He kickeddirt on the gum at his feet and Madison bit the inside of her mouth to keepfrom laughing.

“Yep.” She smacked her gum.

“You into something kinky?” Aweird sounding rumble emerged from his throat. “Pain turn you on, because that’sall you’ll get in Hell?”

Shifting her stance, she facedhim, giving him her undivided focus. “The spell now. Or I shift into easymode.” Madison retrieved the blade she’d wedged at the small of her back. She’ddominate him with a demonic command if she hadn’t been warned it’d reveal herposition.

“No one ever wants to enterHell.” He took a step backward and peered about the darkened glade. The treesto their right rustled from the slight breeze. He fidgeted as if somethingnefarious waited along the tree line to drag him back into the fiery domain.“Why do you want to enter Hell?”

“Personal business.” The creaturewatched her roll the blade along her fingers; a subtle hint at how deftly shemanipulated the weapon.

“You’re crazy, lady.”

“I’m Micah’s wife.” His eyesflashed to hers and his jaw dropped. Fear lanced across his expression.“Now…I’m gonna need that spell.”

He couldn’t talk fast enough. Theright provocation had every demon spewing the details she wanted.

Madison grinned. “Merry Christmasto me.”

The Decision to Review Erotica

I had the website set up and had just announced to the worldon Facebook that I was going to do reviews. A few moments later, I got back a question. I was asked if I would review erotica.

This surprised me a bit because it wasn’t something I hadthought about. Erotica generally has abad reputation and is considered to many to be exactly the same as porn. At first my reaction was to say no butinstead, I sat back and considered things.

I had to think to myself about what exactly it was that Iwanted TTS to accomplish.

In the end, I decided that in order to make The Top Shelf awell versed place on reading of all genres, I would have to say yes to thisquestion. For me, being well versed as areader means stepping outside of your own personal comfort zones and in theend, making myself a better reviewer in the process.

So I said yes.

Now that I’ve actually read some erotica, I can say itreally gets a bad rap. Most of the time,it’s people jumping to conclusions that have never actually read one making allthe fuss. What I found is that by givinga work the title of erotic fiction, it gives the author a little more freedomto push the envelope. There can be someBDSM, some more graphic sex scenes and freedom to play around with metallicunderwear and nipple clamps.

And let’s face it. There are people out there that LIKE this stuff even though it may notbe YOUR cup of tea. So why wouldn’tcharacters be the same way? If it was athriller and some sadistic killer was into these things, people would generallyhave nothing to say but if it happens in an erotica and the characters actuallyenjoy certain things it’s bad?

You can’t say erotica doesn’t have a story. Not if it’s done right. I’m sure there are a few garbled sex scenesstrung together out there by someone who thinks they can write. REAL EROTICA has PLOT! The sexual instances all add to thestory. Take for example in AshlynnMonroe’s Slave to His Desires. The maincharacter is forced to wear metal underwear and nipple clamps. What do you think they’re gonna be nice toher? She was bought as a sex slave!

I think it’s okay to also have that OMG they do THAT!?exclamation when dealing with erotica . I think that’s part of the whole experience. This is one end of the extreme, it’s meant toevoke that response. It’s meant to havesome shock value to it.

Please let me also note that it’s totally okay to havewhatever opinions you have on erotica. I’m not trying to change minds here. Just kinda laying out what I’ve learned from my own experience. I had not read anything considered eroticfiction before this. I think my mindsetis the way it is because my parents didn’t really believe in censorship. Do I believe that people should try readingdifferent genres? Of course I do! We have to climb out of our boxes sometime!If you don’t like it, that’s completely fine.

Me? I’m glad I tookthe chance.

Veterans affect almost all of our lives, if it’s not afamily member, it’s someone you know. All of them deserve our gratitude! Theygive up a lot to keep our country and families safe!

I have two veterans in my family, my grandfather and father.

My grandfather, Bernard Miller, was a marine in WWII stationedin New Zealand and at Guadal Canal. He made a bracelet out of the remains of aJapanese fighter jet—or so he says! He’s a HUGE storyteller, so anything hesays could be true or blown into a story out of this world. He’s unique to saythe least, fun to be with and such a jokester. And you gotta watch him because he’llshamelessly cheat at billiards!! Regardless of what the bracelet is made outof, it’s super cool and an amazing piece of history to me. It’s one of my mostcherished family heirlooms. Here are the pictures of it!

My father served in the army in the Vietnam War. He’s veryembittered by his country’s protests of that war and don’t even get him startedon the actress, Jane Fonda. He’s got very strong opinions about what shouldhave happened to her. He thinks the Vietnam Memorial Wall is a cop-out and onlyerected as an afterthought. My father reminds me that our troops need oursupport regardless if we agree with the war or not. Every military man and woman deserves thesupport of their country! But the way my grandfather and father see their toursis startling different. My grandfather is proud of his service, while my fatheris sour.

After returning from Vietnam, my father suffered from posttraumatic stress disorder. He was living with my mother in California after histour. They were outside and a plane flew by overhead. My father startedscreaming, “Incoming! Incoming!” and dove underneath the vehicle. It freaked mymother out, but it also details the horrors these men experience in war. Thelittle things we think nothing about panicked him and had him taking cover.

Stop and think about what our soldiers see every day. Theydo it for us and to keep our country safe! When they return to the safety ofAmerica, how do they cope with the mundane realities of life? I would think it’dall seem so very trivial. To EVERY soldier and their families...a huge THANK YOU from me! They all make sacrifices for us and they’reall heroes in my eyes!!!

If hewas in the right room, she’d soon find out. If he wasn’t, she would somehowwrangle her disappointment under control.

“Yes. Here’s my key.” He held up the plastic key card and tossed it casually on the mini-bar. Amusement crinkled the corners of his eyes.

Butcould you believe someone you just met if they told you they were a fairy? Howwould you react? With shock, or as Sadie…

Shelived and breathed balderdash in the courtroom, and she could sniff out liesbetter than a hound dog could sniff out quarry. “You’re a fairy? Give me abreak.”

Maybe other men found the arctic chillof her gaze daunting. He found it intriguing, even challenging. Women would beenvious and intimidated by her high-level eroticism.

Stunning, and nothing like the fairieshe would command. Long, shiny, black hair framed her oval face. He couldn'twait to get his fingers in the wavy locks. Gunmetal-silver eyes warily watchedhim. Rimmed in a thin stripe of black eyeliner and splashed with a smidge ofdark-gray shadow, the contrast brought out the stellar shade of her irises.High cheekbones, a slightly upturned nose, and wide lips, naturally dark red,or she'd been biting them in anxiety. Unlike the diminutive fairy-women, shewas tall—not more than an inch or two shorter than his five-ten height. Mostfemale fairies barely reached his chest, which made her a charming oddity. Andshe owned killer curves—again, unlike most beanpole-thin fairies—and thosecurves were framed in an evocative, skintight, black cocktail dress.

Jace stopped in front of her and staredat her mouth. He knew many places he wanted those lips, but mostly he wantedthem rounded on an orgasmic scream.

“I'm Jace.”
